frequently asked questions
What is the difference between TAO Movement and other gyms/fitness studios?
In TAO Movement, we always consider every aspect of our clients' lives (diet, physical performance, stress, and more) whether their goal is to eliminate chronic pain, to get healthy, to lose weight, or to perform better competitively. Rather than solely treating the symptoms, we will recognize the root causes and generate solutions to their needs so that their pain will have a very low chance to return. Prior to designing workout programs, we carry out extensive health and postural assessments on clients so that we can identify any existing postural syndromes/muscle imbalances and understand within which of the 4 Doctors & 6 Foundation Principles can be further improved.
What are corrective exercises?
Corrective exercises are a combination of stretching and low intensity resistance training. By doing corrective exercises, we are able to re-balance our body to get rid of muscles imbalances, improper postures, and chronic pain. They are often developed from long-term accumulated improper movements (incorrect physical training, work/sport-related activities, medical operations, or accidents) that gradually worsen our postures. For example, neck and shoulder pain from desk jobs or low back pain from moving heavy objects. To reduce this kind of chronic pain, postural assessments followed by corrective exercises are one of the most important and effective methods.
Do you use machines?
As you can see on our Facilities page, we do not have any machine other than the cable machine. In most cases, machines usually already provide us with support as levers thus they stop us from activating our core stabilizers. The main function of our stabilizers is to protect our spine through all movements such as lifting weights, walking, and even sitting! If we are not trained to use our core stabilizers properly, there will be a tendency of overworking other muscle groups in order to prevent our spine from getting injured. When our bodies are in compensation for an accumulated period of time, injuries and chronic pain will occur very easily. Therefore, in TAO Movement, we coach our clients with free weights so that they can have proper core recruitment for their daily activities and physical events.
